Giclée Fine Art prints to Museum Standards

Squid's founder Kyaw Kyaw ("K2") Chittin has been making digital fine art prints since 1999. He is a colour management expert and self-confessed printer geek.

Our Giclée Fine Art print service combines his specialist knowledge of the fine art print making process, the finest quality papers on the market and inks with the longest image permanence. The result is outstanding exhibition-quality colour and black & white prints that should last over 450 years under appropriate display conditions.

We employ a fully colour managed workflow with custom made ICC profiles. We normally print on the following carefully-selected papers using 12 colour HP and Canon printers for the widest colour gamut. Click on a name for more details about that paper.

Museum Grade prints are made on HP printers for the highest archival permanence (in excess of 450 years) whilst Exhibition Grade ones are made on either Canon (archival permanence over 190 years) or HP printers depending on our work load at the time. See below for more information on archival permanence.

Not only Canson and Hahnemühle

We recommend fine art prints on Canson Infinity and Hahnemühle papers. These two mills have each been in existence for over 430 years and their award-winning papers are renowned throughout the world. Canson papers in particular, in addition to providing the deepest blacks and the most neutral shades of grey, do not contain Optical Brightening Agents ("OBAs"). OBAs are chemicals normally used to whiten the naturally yellow base tone of paper. These OBAs burn out over time with exposure to UV and the paper returns to its natural warmer base colour.

Paper choice is a matter of personal taste. For any number of reasons, Canson may not be to your liking. That's not a problem. We've printed on a range of Awagami, Hahnemühle, Harman, Ilford, Innova, Moab and Sihl products for our clients. In fact, we can print on any paper on the market! Just get in touch with us and let us know which one you'd prefer.

Image Archival Permanence in excess of 450 years

We use HP and Canon printers in our print studio. Whilst both brands have inks with very high image archival permanence, tests carried out by the world's leading authority on image archival permanence has shown that Canson Infinity papers printed with HP Vivera inks can last in excess of 450 years without noticeable fading! No other combination of ink and paper has achieved this outstanding result. Click here for the full report by Wilhelm Imaging Research.
